Largest Hot Dogs In The World [Guinness World Record]

The bigger the hot dog, the better, right?

If you like your portion size to be big, you’ll be pleased to know that plenty of places are happy to oblige.

But where can you get the largest hot dogs in the world? Read on to discover everything you need to know.

The official Guinness World Record for the world’s biggest commercially sold hot dog

Some Guinness World Records get broken all of the time, but this is certainly not the case for the world’s largest commercially sold hot dog. In fact, this is a record that’s been in place for 12 years now! 

A place in Chicago called Gorilla Tango Novelty Meats entered the record books back on the 21st of March in 2011 for their unique hotdog that weighed 3.18kg (more than 7 lbs!). This hot dog was available for around $40 at the time. 

The owner of Gorilla Tango Novelty Meats said the following:

“What inspired me to make the biggest hotdog was the inherent problem with small hotdogs. I wanted to make a hotdog that pops the grill and doesn’t fall around. In order to make that, we made a big hotdog that could be sliced and put in a grill with two flat sides.”

While this hot dog was much bigger than the average, the Gorilla Tango Novelty Meats team kept it simple in terms of flavors. They went down the traditional route, i.e., one big hot dog bun, one big hot dog, and plenty of mustard and ketchup. 

Feltman’s latest submission for the world’s largest hot dog!

Based on Coney Island, Feltman’s is the latest company to submit a claim for the world’s largest hot dog to the Guinness World Record. Over five ft long and weighing 66 pounds, this hot dog has to be seen to be believed! 

Not only is this hot dog big in size, but it’s been made with a lot of heart. All the proceeds have gone to Headstrong Project, a non-profit that provides mental health care for combat veterans. 

Some of the longest hot dogs around the world

A hot dog 197 ft in length in a 198 ft hot dog bun was made by the All-Japan Bread Association and the Shizuoka Meat Producers of Japan’s Shizuoka. 

The hot dog was made to be the main part of a media event to celebrate the All-Japan Bread Association’s 50th anniversary. The wiener was made offsite the previous day at the Shizuoka plant, and it was then cooked with bread at the Akasaka Prince Hotel.

Once the hot dog was officially measured, it was cut up and enjoyed by those in attendance. 

Other large hot dogs that have been made around the world

Franz Family Bakeries

The Franz Family Bakeries of Portland, OR, and Hill Meat Company located in Pendleton, OR created a wiener and hot dog bun that measured 104.75 feet.

Like the hot dog we just mentioned, this was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the famous chain of bakeries. The hot dog was the star of the show!

Jamie Coyne

Jamie Coyne in Columbus, Ohio, made a wiener and hot dog bun that measured 50 ft 7 inches for the Great American Hot Dog Festival in 2005.

Rosen’s Bakery and Vienna Beef

The year prior, for the Taste of Chicago, Rosen’s Bakery and Vienna Beef made a hot dog and hot dog bun that measured 37.2 feet. They did this to obtain the world record at the time as a celebration for National Hot Dog Month. This was a massive hot dog, and the bun used more than 200,000 poppy seeds.

It wasn’t the first time Rosen’s Bakery and Vienna Beef did this. Back in 2003, they made their first attempt, reaching 16.1 feet. However, a few months later, this record was overtaken, so they had to give it another try.
